About the Club
The Dr. Warren J. McClain Touchdown Club of Southern New Jersey was founded in 1967 to promote and encourage interscholastic football among the public and private high schools of Gloucester and Salem Counties. This came through the partnership of Dr. McClain and then-Woodbury Times sports editor Bob Shryock. Over the next 53 years, the Club evolved and honored more than 5,000 individuals, including those from Camden and Cumberland Counties. Dr. McClain wanted the Club to be innovative and current and to honor players for their performances on and off the field throughout the season.
Following the pandemic of 2020, the Touchdown Club of Southern New Jersey expanded Dr. McClain's dream and became a true South Jersey Football Club. This vision included each of the seven South Jersey Counties, adding Burlington, Cumberland, Cape May and Atlantic to the membership. The Touchdown Club looks to give each of the schools in the seven-county area the opportunity to not only highlight their players, but their programs.
In the spring of 2024, the Club opened an exciting new chapter of its history by honoring South Jersey's Girls Flag Football athletes and teams.
The Club's encouragement of the sport is to be accomplished by the recognition of outstanding players in the sport at regularly scheduled banquets. In the end, the goal is to take the prestigious club, that all started in 1967 with a dream of Dr. McClain's and the vision of Bob Shryock to a higher level.
